Welcome to Tutoring With Mary. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) cover your use of this website and the academic services I provide. By booking, paying for, or taking part in any session, you (the “Client,” or, for a student under 18, the parent or guardian agreeing on the student’s behalf) agree to these Terms. Tutoring With Mary is a solo online practice, so throughout these Terms “I,” “me,” and “my” refer to Tutoring With Mary.
1. Services
I offer Academic Mentorship, Test Prep Mentorship (SAT/ACT and ISEE/SSAT), Executive Function Coaching, and Essay Coaching. I work online with students from elementary through university, as well as adult learners, both locally and internationally. The scope and focus of each engagement are agreed at the start of our work together. I may recommend the service that best fits a student’s needs, and I reserve the right to decline or end work that falls outside what I can responsibly support.
2. Getting Started
I do not offer free trial sessions. If you would like to experience how I work before committing, you are welcome to request a single paid session through the form on my site; I will follow up with the one-time rate, and it is entirely up to you whether to continue from there. Ongoing work begins after we have agreed on a schedule and any applicable package or rate.
3. Sessions, Scheduling, Cancellations, and No-Shows
I tutor Sunday through Friday and am closed on Saturdays. Sessions held on Sundays carry a surcharge, which applies to any Sunday session regardless of how it was booked.
In short:
- With more than 12 hours’ notice, you can reschedule to any open slot at no charge.
- With 12 hours’ notice or less, the session is billed at the full rate, though in many cases I can arrange a make-up so the time is not lost.
- No-shows are billed in full. I wait 12 minutes from the start time before a session counts as a no-show.
This is a summary. My complete cancellation and no-show policy, including how make-ups work and the Friday exception, lives on my cancellation and no-show policy page and is the full statement of these rules.
4. Payment
Rates are quoted to you directly, since they depend on the service and the structure we agree on. Packages and recurring arrangements are subject to the specific terms set when you enroll. Payment is due before each session or based on our mutually agreed upon payment schedule, and unpaid balances may pause our work until they are resolved. Fees are stated in U.S. dollars; if you are paying from outside the United States, you are responsible for any currency conversion fees or local taxes that apply. You are also responsible for any credit card or ACH processing fees.
5. Refunds
Completed sessions are not refundable. Unused and unscheduled sessions are not refundable, but they can be transferred to other students. I do not offer refunds based on academic results (see Section 9).
6. Working With Minors
Many of my students are under 18. When that is the case, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms, approve the engagement, and is responsible for payment. By enrolling a student, you confirm you have the authority to do so. I am glad to keep parents and guardians reasonably informed about a student’s progress.
7. Session Recordings
Sessions are recorded as a standard part of how I work. Recordings support quality assurance and note-taking, and give the student a convenient way to revisit the session as part of the learning process. By agreeing to these Terms, you consent to sessions being recorded for these purposes. Recordings are kept confidential and handled in the same way as other student and family information (see Section 11), and they are retained indefinitely.
Recordings are never used for advertising or social media without separate permission. If I would like to use a clip from a session in marketing or on social media, I will first show the specific clip to the parent or guardian, or to the adult student, and I will post it online only after receiving their consent.
8. Your Responsibilities
To get the most from our work, I ask that you join sessions on time and ready to focus, follow through on agreed-upon work between sessions, share accurate information, and provide a suitable space and a reliable internet connection for online sessions. I want every session to feel respectful and supportive in both directions, and I reserve the right to pause or end an engagement, without refund for work already done, in cases of abusive conduct, repeated no-shows, or requests to act against academic integrity.
9. No Guarantee of Results
I bring real care and expertise to this work, and I will always give a student my best. I cannot, however, guarantee specific outcomes such as grades, test scores, admissions decisions, or scholarships. Those depend on many things outside my control, including a student’s own effort and decisions made by schools and testing bodies. My role is to teach, coach, and guide; the results follow from the work we do together and from factors I do not control.
10. Academic Integrity
I help students build their own skills and produce their own work. I do not complete assignments, take tests, or write essays to be submitted as a student’s own, and my essay coaching keeps every piece in the student’s own words. I will not support anything that violates a school’s academic integrity rules.
11. Confidentiality and Privacy
I treat student and family information as confidential and use it only to provide and improve my services, except where the law requires disclosure or where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety. How I handle the information collected through my site and forms is described in my [Privacy Policy], which forms part of these Terms.
12. Intellectual Property
Any materials I create and share, such as worksheets, frameworks, and resources, remain mine and are provided for the student’s personal educational use only. Please do not copy, distribute, resell, or publicly share them without my written permission.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, my total liability for any claim connected to my services will not exceed the amount you paid for the specific service that gave rise to the claim, and I am not responsible for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
14. Communication
By working with me, you agree to receive messages related to your sessions, such as scheduling, invoices, and progress notes, by email, text, or my scheduling platform. You can opt out of any non-essential messages at any time.
15. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use my services after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located in [County] County, California, unless the law requires otherwise.
17. Contact
Questions about these Terms are always welcome:
