Student Wins & Testimonials

Celebrating my students’ growth and progress.

For nearly two decades, I’ve had the joy of working with students across STEM, test prep, writing, and executive functioning. Though every student is unique, my goal is always the same: to help them actualize their potential as a scholars and a thinkers. Below are some of my students’ recent wins, followed by testimonials from parents and students:

Spring & Summer 2026

  • SAT Prep student who increased their SAT score by 320 points committed to Spelman College on a full ride scholarship.
  • Rising 9th grader finished 8th grade with straight As, making it two academic years of straight As in a row (their first straight As they’ve ever received since we began working together two years ago). Also received admission to a prestigious private high school.
  • Same rising 9th grader got 100% on a math test. They used my “Predictable Math Mistakes” principles.
  • Student athlete, SAT prep, and academic mentorship student achieved 180 point increase on the SAT. They committed to UC Merced.
  • 5th grader received an A on the last math test of the academic year, using my “Predictable Math Mistakes” principles.
  • Rising 8th grader went from dreading math to desiring difficult math problems and qualifying for the Honors Geometry course next school year.
  • College-level executive function student learned to use time blocking strategy, showing independence with scheduling study time.

Testimonials

Mary is a joy to work with. She’s lots of fun and has it has great insights. I needed help writing my personal statement when I applied for my masters. She made a detailed analysis of the strengths and areas that needed improvement in the application. She proofread for errors and also give great advice on how to structure the content. She asked stimulated questions that help guide me as I wrote. Thanks Mary for helping me get accepted to my masters.

Notes from Mary

One week it’s what an admissions dean told me at a conference. Then, it’s why a student keeps missing the same kind of math problem. After that? How students can use the “due date” vs. “do date” distinction for better planning in school. Notes from Mary is my free newsletter where I share what I learn—and what I think—from the people I meet, the research I read, and the students I’ve learned from over the past two decades.
