The short version: Life happens, and I’ve built real flexibility in for it. I also run a small business where my time is the product, so a few clear rules keep things fair on both sides.
The 12-hour window
If you need to cancel or reschedule, just give me more than 12 hours’ notice before your scheduled session start time. That’s a free reschedule at no extra charge. I’ll move your session to any open slot that works, even on a day you already have a session if that is what you prefer and it aligns with our academic goals.
If you let me know 12 hours or less before your session, that session is billed at the full rate. With that little notice, I usually won’t be able to fill the time slot in time, and an empty slot is time I can’t get back. Keep in mind that many of my colleagues require 24 hours’ notice, so you are getting more flexibility with this policy.
The make-up exception (because life happens)
I would always rather keep students learning than collect a late fee. So even inside that 12-hour window, I’ll waive the charge when we genuinely make the time up, meaning we move your session to another day within the same week of the originally scheduled session.
My week runs Sunday through Friday, which makes Friday a special case for make-ups: because I’m closed Saturday, there are no remaining days of the week to roll a Friday session into. So if you cancel a Friday session inside the 12-hour window, the only way to make it up is another open time that same Friday. If nothing else on Friday works, that session is billed at the full rate.
One catch: make-up sessions are locked in. Once we reschedule a late cancellation, that new slot is final and can’t be moved again. You are charged for the session whether or not you show up.
It’s also important to note that the make-up exception only applies to a cancellation made before the scheduled start time. Once that start time arrives, the session is no longer eligible for the makeup exception, so a late arrival or a no-show is charged in full and can’t be made up.
Scheduling & rates
I tutor Sunday through Friday, and I’m closed on Saturdays. Sunday sessions are available at an additional $50/hour, and that Sunday rate applies even when it’s rescheduled on a weekday. I am also closed on all public US Holidays, making those days ineligible options for the make-up exception.
No-shows
I’ll wait 12 minutes from your scheduled start time. If I have not heard from you or you haven’t joined by then, it counts as a no-show and will be billed at the full rate. I will not be available for tutoring during that scheduled session once the 12-minute mark has passed.
